The Breston Academy Scheveningen is a school that designs and forms objects by hammering out cold metal.
Such metals which always contain some copper include: silver, gold and all bronze metals such as nickel-silver and yellow-copper.
The basic working-processes are: sawing, filing, sanding, polishing, annealing, soldering, and pickling.
The advanced processes include: hammering, casting (in cuttlefisch, in sand and the lost wax method), setting stones, twisting and coiling wire, making links, chains and rings.
The lessons are based on a combination of technical coaching, artistic development and independent work.
Quality comes from a fine control of many elements such as the sound of the hammer on metal and the intensity of the flame!

The Academy is located at Scheveningen in a 19th centuries old warehouse close to the sea.

The 25th course 2012-2013 starts on Tuesday September 4th and ends on Friday May 10th. Christmas holydays are from Saturday December 22th until Monday January 7th.

Tuesday and Friday
For 34 days from 10 am until 4 pm every week, the fee is €1224
For 17 days from 10 am until 4 pm every other week, the fee is €612 For 8 days from 10 am until 4 pm once a month, the fee is €288.

Wednesday
For 34 evenings from 7.30 pm until 10.30 pm every week, the fee is €612

The fee
The fee for the course is to paid in advance.
It should be noted that for beginners materials and a toolset are not included.
Starting at a later date is possible subject to availability.

The final test
For the talented students of the Breston Academy Scheveningen it is possible to sit a final examination.
The first time this examination took place was in 2001 and in 2011 it was for the 4th time.
The adjudication committee consists of three professional designers in metals.
One sculptor and two jewelers judge the work on technique, design and originality.
